An AI Bot in Any Telegram Chat: Ask "Is This True?"

4 min readРусская версия

In short: write your question in any Telegram chat (the comments under a post, a group or a private chat) and add @proxysvpn_bot at the end. The bot answers right there, once, and everyone in the chat sees the answer. You do not add the bot to the chat. It answers people with an active ProxysVPN subscription: up to 10 answers a day each.

ProxysVPN is our service, and @proxysvpn_bot is our bot: answers in chats come with the subscription. The answers are written by AI, and AI can be wrong, so check anything important against the sources the bot names.
Four scenes: a fact check in the comments, a bet in a private chat, a follow-up question and a menu translated from a photo. On-screen text in Russian, English subtitles. · 0:51

How to ask

  1. 1Open any chat: the comments under a channel post, a group or a private chat. The bot does not need to be a member.
  2. 2Write your question and add @proxysvpn_bot at the end, for example: "Is this true? @proxysvpn_bot". A message that starts with the bot's name opens a different mode of the bot in Telegram, and no answer comes to the chat.
  3. 3To ask about someone else's message or photo, reply to it (Reply in the message menu) and write your question with @proxysvpn_bot at the end. The bot reads both your question and the message you reply to.
  4. 4The answer arrives in the same chat under the bot's name. Everyone in the chat sees it, so keep personal details out of the question.

Questions from the video and what the bot does with them
WhereWhat to writeWhat the bot does
Comments under a post"Is this true? @proxysvpn_bot"Checks the post's claim and names its sources in words
Private chat, a betReply to "Bet you an octopus has three hearts?" with "Is this true? @proxysvpn_bot"Settles it: says who is right and why
Same chat, a minute later"And why is its blood blue? @proxysvpn_bot"Knows you mean the octopus: it remembers the conversation
Group, a photo of a menu or a signReply to the photo: "What does it say? @proxysvpn_bot"Reads the text in the photo and translates it

Fact checks in the comments

See a bold claim in a channel? Reply to the post in the comments: "Is this true? @proxysvpn_bot". The bot reads the post, searches the web for recent information and answers under it. It starts with a verdict (true, false, partly true or not confirmed) and explains in a couple of lines what it is based on. In the video the post says the Great Wall of China is "visible from space": the bot calls it a myth and cites astronaut Yang Liwei and NASA.

The bot names its sources in words, without links: many channels delete comments with links and mentions, and the answer would disappear with them. If the topic matters (money, health, news), open the source yourself.

It remembers the conversation for 30 minutes

The bot keeps your last 3 questions and its answers in that chat for 30 minutes after the last answer. So you can follow up without repeating yourself: "tell me more", "why?", "and the other way round?". The memory is separate for each person and each chat, and it clears itself after 30 quiet minutes.

Photos and videos

  • Photos are seen whole: the bot reads and translates a menu, a sign, instructions or a label, and describes what is in the picture.
  • Of a video, a GIF or a round video the bot sees only the cover frame, not the whole clip. If another moment matters, take a screenshot and ask about it.
  • The bot does not keep the picture: it is used for that one answer only.

What the bot sees and what it does not

  • The bot is not a chat member and does not read the chat. It receives only the message that mentions it and the message you reply to.
  • It answers once per message. The answer is visible to everyone in the chat, like any other message.
  • It checks the subscription by your Telegram account, but it does not mention your details in the answer and does not ask for anything personal.

If the bot stays silent

  • The bot's name goes last. "@proxysvpn_bot is this true?" will not work, "Is this true? @proxysvpn_bot" will.
  • The subscription is tied to your Telegram. The bot recognises you by the Telegram account you ask from. Check your subscription in the @proxysvpn_bot bot or in your dashboard.
  • Today's limit. When no answers are left, the bot says so in one line. The limit resets the next day.
  • An old Telegram version. If everything else is fine, update Telegram: bots answering in chats they are not members of is a recent feature.

Do I need to add the bot to a group or a channel?

No. The bot does not join the chat: add @proxysvpn_bot at the end of your message in any chat and it answers there.

Why does the bot not answer when I start the message with its name?

Telegram treats a message that starts with the bot's name as a different mode of the bot, and the question never reaches the chat. Put the name last: "Is this true? @proxysvpn_bot".

Will others see my question and the bot's answer?

Yes. The answer arrives in the chat as a normal message, and every member sees it. So keep personal details out of the question.

Does the bot read the whole chat?

No. It receives only the message with its name and the message you reply to. It does not see the rest of the chat.

Can I trust the bot's answer?

It is an AI answer: it searches for information and names its sources, but it can be wrong. For important decisions, open the source yourself.

How many questions can I ask?

Up to 10 answers a day and no more than 3 questions a minute. You need an active ProxysVPN subscription; any plan works.
