Best VPN App for Android in 2026: ProxysVPN, Happ, INCY and v2RayTun Compared, and How to Install
Short answer: on Android the choice is wider than on an iPhone, and no region has to change. Our app, ProxysVPN, is on Google Play, signs in with an eight-character code and in WataFast mode picks the country and protocol by itself. Happ, INCY and v2RayTun connect with a subscription link — if one of them already works for you, there is no need to switch.
VPN apps for Android compared
| App | Where to get it | How it connects | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| ProxysVPN (ours) | Google Play | 8-character code from the dashboard | Android 8 and later; not on Android TV yet |
| INCY | Google Play | Subscription link or QR code | Third-party app: updates come from its developers |
| Happ | Google Play, or an APK from the dashboard | Subscription link or QR code | Third-party app |
| v2RayTun | Google Play | Subscription link | Also runs on Android TV |
What matters in an Android VPN app
- Protocols. VLESS Reality, XHTTP and Hysteria2. In ProxysVPN the first row of the country list is WataFast, the automatic mode: it picks the country and the protocol by itself and brings the connection back by itself if it drops.
- Sign-in without a link. A code from the dashboard — eight characters instead of a long subscription line.
- In Russia or abroad. The app asks “Where are you?” and makes its own guess. With “I am in Russia”, Russian sites, banks and government services open directly; with “I am abroad”, all traffic goes through the VPN, Russian sites included. Sites you add to “Always direct” never go through the tunnel.
- The VPN after a reboot. Android has the system switches “Always-on VPN” and “Block connections without VPN”; they work with any VPN app, ours included. What they do and do not cover is in kill switch explained.
- No root. Android itself gives a VPN app the system tunnel; superuser rights are not needed.
How to install ProxysVPN on Android
- 1Install ProxysVPN from Google Play.
- 2Get a sign-in code: in your dashboard, open the device card and press “Code for the app”. The eight-character code is valid for 10 minutes and works once. No account yet? Signing up takes a minute with an email address; Telegram is not needed.
- 3Open the app, choose to sign in with a code and enter the code.
- 4Android asks for permission to set up a VPN connection — tap “OK”.
- 5Connect. To have the VPN start by itself after a reboot: Settings → Network & internet → VPN → the gear next to ProxysVPN → “Always-on VPN”. Manufacturers name these items slightly differently.
What it costs
The app itself is free; what you pay for is the subscription: $1.50 per device per month, taken from your balance, with nothing charged to your card automatically. Top-ups start at $5. An account opened on the Russian site is priced in roubles instead: an account keeps the currency it was opened in, whatever card tops it up. One subscription link is one device and one app. If this link was in Happ or INCY, signing in with the code moves it to ProxysVPN, and the old app will say the link is taken — that is expected.
If it does not work
- The code is rejected. It is valid for 10 minutes and works once — get a new one.
- The app says the link is taken. In the dashboard: device card → ⋯ → “Reset device binding”, then sign in with a new code.
- The VPN goes off when the screen does. Some manufacturers' skins put background apps to sleep: in the battery settings let ProxysVPN run without restrictions. The Android 16 always-on fault and the rest are in VPN not working on Android.
- Connected, but nothing loads. Step by step in VPN connected but no internet.
- The fallback is INCY or Happ with a subscription link: INCY and Happ, step by step. For an Android TV, see the TV section of choosing a VPN client.
Which VPN app is best for Android in 2026?
One that speaks VLESS Reality, takes a subscription without hand-made configs and lets you choose what goes direct. For our subscription that is ProxysVPN from Google Play, and INCY, Happ and v2RayTun with a link.
Which Android version do I need?
Android 8.0 or later.
Is there an app for Android TV?
Our app does not install on a TV from Google Play yet. On Android TV, v2RayTun or INCY with a subscription link will do.
Can I install it without Google Play?
Yes: the APK is on the download page, proxysvpn.com/en/desktop. It does not have WataFast mode yet.
Do I need root?
No. Android gives VPN apps the system tunnel without superuser rights.
Can one subscription cover a phone and a tablet?
Each device connects separately, with its own link and its own code: a phone and a tablet are two devices in the dashboard.
